Arai-yu is located in Asakusa. It is a 10-minute walk from the nearest station. The building was constructed in a traditional architectural style called “miyadzukuri.” This is the same architectural style as Japanese shrines and temples.
The facilities
There are several different types of baths available, such as massage baths and aromatic baths for which the aroma changes every day. There is a view of a small Japanese garden with a table outside which is used as a break area from the men’s bath.
Design
A wonderful mural painted by Nakajuma-san decorates both sides of the sento. On the women’s side is a mural of a green Mt. Fuji created by Nakajima-san, and on the men’s side is a Hokusai inspired Mt. Fuji mural. Men can relax and enjoy the “engawa” (a wooden terrace with a view of a Japanese garden) after a bath. There is also a Skytree photography exhibition into the bathroom, as the sento is located near the SkyTree. The sento is very colorful and luminous.
